Want More Buy-In From Your Team? Try Piloting Your Next Big Idea
Dear Women Leaders,
One of my favorite phrases is “Let’s pilot that.”
Many businesses struggle with change management because the change feels permanent, even when it’s not.
There are numerous opportunities to test drive an idea or a new approach, but we often unintentionally convey a sense of permanency.
So, instead, the idea of a pilot program can help people ease into change while also reminding them that new ideas require feedback, ideation, and tweaks before they reach our intended outcomes.
A pilot program is “a small-scale, temporary test of a larger-scale project, service, or concept to evaluate its feasibility, effectiveness, and potential challenges before full implementation.” (thanks for the definition, Google AI)
It might sound something like this:
We will fully adopt this idea and put forth a concerted effort to implement it on a short-term basis.
We will then gather feedback and data to evaluate the efficacy of the idea.
Once we have sufficient data, we can determine if this new approach will be permanent or if we should revert to a previous method.
Adding in clear timelines and expectations for how and when you’ll collect feedback is necessary for buy-in and success.
What small-ish change do you want to make happen but has been met with resistance?
Could offering to “pilot” that idea change others’ perception and increase buy-in?
Sincerely,
Your Leadership Coach
